What we're building

Everything we're working on, in the order we're working on it. Tap anything to see what it does. No dates: there are three of us, and we'd rather move something than promise a Tuesday.

The road

  1. Live now

    In the app today

If you are not using one of these, that is us being too quiet about it.

    • The page a client lands on from your Cake link. One big photo you pick, which you can drag so your face or your piece stays in frame on a phone and on a laptop, your name across it, your city and styles underneath, and your bio in your own words. Your six newest pieces sit up front with the rest behind See all, your policies and FAQs are there for the clients who need them, and a separate About page holds the year you started, where you work and your guest spots.

    • The form behind your Request a booking button is yours. Add up to 20 questions of your own, reword the ones we wrote, put them in any order, make them required or hide them, and write your rules in your own words. This has been there longer than most artists know, which is our fault for not saying so louder.

    • A request arrives with the client's answers and their reference images attached. You read it, approve or decline it, and offer times without leaving the page. Nothing books and no deposit link exists until you approve, so nobody takes a time you did not agree to.

      How DMs become bookings
    • Whatever payment apps you have set up get offered to the client together, under one reference code, so there is no back and forth about where to send it or what to put in the note. The client marks it sent, and you confirm it landed in your app.

      About tattoo deposits
    • Clients can pay your deposit by card, through Stripe, alongside the payment apps you already use. Cake makes a new Stripe account in your name, and Stripe pays your card deposits out to your bank. Your client pays the deposit. Stripe takes its card processing fee from your payout. The help page has the setup steps.

Set up card payments with Stripe
    • Day, week and month views. Cake shows the busy times from the Google calendars you pick, so clients can't book over them, and puts your sessions on a Cake calendar in your Google account. Your own calendars stay yours: Cake only reads them. Move a session in Cake and the Google event moves with it. Move it in Google and Cake puts it back, because the booking lives in Cake. Cancel one and the event stays, marked cancelled, so you can still find what got called off.

      Cake and Google Calendar
    • Reminders by text as well as email, because plenty of clients never open email. Turn on your appointment reminders, and clients who ticked the text box on your request form get them by text too. The texts come from Cake's number, and every client still gets the email.

      Reminders for your clients
    • One thread per person, instead of the same conversation spread across Instagram, email and your phone. The request, the messages and the booking sit together, so you are not scrolling for a reference photo somebody sent three weeks ago. Search the list by name, email, phone or Instagram handle. Hold or right-click a photo in the thread and choose Add to request to file it with the reference photos.

    • Somebody books you in person or over text, and you put them in yourself in a few taps. Book it now books the session and sends your client nothing. Send their confirmation emails them a link to their appointment, and lets Cake email them later, reminders included.

    • Pick light or dark for your studio, or leave it alone and it follows your phone. Your public page does the same for your clients.

The studio has a dark mode
  2. Building now

    In progress

What the three of us are on right now.

    • A new layout for the part where you offer times and the part where you read your week. Offering times is the step you do most, and today it takes more taps and more squinting than it should.

    • Smaller changes to the page you see for each client: what it shows about them, how their history reads, and how quickly you can get to the thing you opened it for.

  3. Next up

    Queued

    2 in Next up

In line behind Building now. We start these when that work lands.

    • Clients join a list on your page while your books are closed, and hear from you the moment they open. When a session cancels, you can offer that time to somebody already waiting instead of losing the day.

    • Put your flash up so clients can request straight off a sheet, instead of describing from memory the piece they saw on your page.

  4. Later

    Back burner

    3 in Later

We want all of it. There are three of us, so these are waiting rather than forgotten. Asking for one moves it up.

    • More of your page under your control: colours, fonts, backgrounds. We want this one as much as you do. Themes and a profile song are not decided, so we are not promising them.

      Ask for this in Discord
    • Consultations booked as their own thing, with their own time and their own questions, instead of being squeezed into a session that is not one yet.

      Ask for this in Discord

Not on here?

Tell us in Discord. Most of this exists because an artist said they needed it there, and that is still what moves something up.
