Cake started on our couch.

Bobbi would tattoo for eight hours, come home, and start her second job on our couch: the inbox, the deposits, the hunt for somebody's reference photo from three weeks ago. The art was paying the bills, but the couch job was death by a thousand emails and DMs.

So we started building the way out, around her own books. We called Devon when it got serious. A lot of artist conversations later, Cake is almost ready for its next books.

Who makes Cake

Cake is booking for tattoo artists, built by a tattoo artist. It started on a couch, after Bobbi's eight-hour days at the chair kept turning into a second job in her inbox. Cake is women-owned and LGBTQ+-owned.

Three people and a couch.

Word for word.

We interviewed eleven working artists before writing a line of code. They said this.

  • I'm a tattooer. I don't want to do logistics.
    books by email, year three
  • So many of my responses end up in spam, that I lose a lot of business that way.
the same artist, two minutes later
  • I'm copying and pasting out of my DMs all the time. It's annoying.
    shop owner with high-volume books
  • I need someone to take this away from me. Like, this is so stressful for me.
