When card deposits reach your bank

A card deposit goes to your own Stripe account first. Stripe then pays it out to your bank on your payout schedule.

The short answer

  • A card deposit goes to your own Stripe account, and Stripe pays it out to your bank.
  • Your first payout typically takes 7 to 14 days from your first card payment.
  • After that, payouts follow the schedule in your Stripe dashboard. Cake doesn't set or change it.
  • Venmo, Zelle and Cash App deposits never go through Stripe. They land in your own app account.
Jump to the steps

1.2.1 Where a card deposit goes

A card deposit goes to your own Stripe account, and Stripe pays it out to your bank. It's the account Cake made in your name when you set up card payments, and the bank is the one you gave Stripe.

Your client pays the deposit. Stripe takes its card processing fee from your payout.

Stripe sends every payout, on the schedule set in your Stripe account.

1.2.2 Your first payout

Your first payout typically takes 7 to 14 days from your first card payment. Stripe says the wait depends on your industry, your country and your account's risk level.

The long wait is for the first payout only. After that, payouts follow the schedule in your Stripe dashboard. Cake doesn't set or change it.

1.2.3 After the first payout

Each card payment becomes available to pay out after Stripe's settlement time, which is typically 2 business days in the US. Your schedule then decides when Stripe sends it:

  • Daily: Stripe sends what's available every business day.
  • Weekly or monthly: Stripe sends it on the days you pick, such as every Monday or the 1st of the month.
  • Manual: Nothing goes out until you send a payout yourself in your Stripe dashboard.

Note: Business days are Monday to Friday, not counting bank holidays. A payout due on a weekend or holiday arrives the next business day. Your bank might take extra time to show the money after Stripe sends it.

1.2.4 See or change your schedule

Your payout schedule lives in your Stripe dashboard. To get there from Cake:

  1. In Cake, open Settings , then Payments .

  2. When Card reads Ready for card payments, press the Stripe dashboard link under it.

  3. In Stripe, open Payouts to see each payout and the date Stripe expects it in your bank.

  4. To change how often Stripe pays you, update your payout schedule in Stripe's settings. You can change it any time.

1.2.5 When a payout is late

  • Stripe needs info: If Stripe asks for something, such as your ID or your bank account for payouts, Cake names it under Card in Payments. Stripe typically stops payouts when it doesn't get what it asked for by its deadline. Press Continue setup, or add it in your Stripe dashboard.
  • It's your first payout: Your first payout typically takes 7 to 14 days from your first card payment.
  • It's a weekend or holiday: Stripe pays out on business days, so the payout arrives the next business day.
  • Stripe sent it: Stripe's Payouts page shows the date Stripe expects it in your bank. Your bank might take extra time after that.

1.2.6 Venmo, Zelle and Cash App deposits

Venmo, Zelle and Cash App deposits never go through Stripe. They land in your own app account. None of the payout timing above applies, and when you can move the money to your bank is up to the app.

A payment link's money goes wherever the link takes it, such as your Square account for a Square link.

You check your app and confirm it landed.
